Elle Fanning stars in the latest Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 ad campaign shot by Juergen Teller. The ads feature Elle Fanning donning heavy outerwear and dresses that seem too big on her but she pulls it off with ease by staring rather blankly into the camera looking like she owns it; albeit a little nonchalantly. The photos are dreamy with a slightly surreal atmosphere but I’m unsure of the outfits selected here. I wish the stylist had chosen more outfits with those eclectic prints and that striped colour-block coat plus a metallic piece. But that’s just me. Otherwise, selecting Elle Fanning for the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 ad campaign would have proved to be a winner.
Looking back at the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 ad campaign again and you realise that Elle Fanning is only 13 but she has over a dozen editorial spreads to her name including this one. With the age factor in mind, the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign starring Hailee Steinfeld instantly comes to attention. I had written in an earlier post about the ad campaign that the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2011/2012 collection needed someone more appropriate to model as Hailee Steinfeld looked somewhat young. But I have recently gained enlightenment.
Ad campaigns have always been about the collections, the clothes, the bags, the shoes and the accessories. The model is merely that, a model to show the collection off. It is about selling dreams and fantasies, breaking away from the norm to grab consumers’ attention. You don’t relate to the model or celebrity wearing the collection; you see the collection for what it is no matter who is modeling it. Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld are just two young starlets modeling designer clothes, heck, they even wear designer clothes (yes young girls be jealous). Let’s just look at the ad campaigns as such, you don’t have to read too much into it. It’s just simply beautiful clothes on pretty young things.
