Balmain will be launching a more affordable diffusion line called Pierre Balmain -for both menswear and womenswear- for Spring/Summer 2012, come this December. Pierre Balmain Spring/Summer 2012 will not be designed by new head designer Olivier Rousteing -who took over Christophe Decarnin- but will be led by a separate independent design team. Pierre Balmain will of course be priced lower than the sky-high prices Balmain is known for. Prices will range from €120 for t-shirts to €900 for evening wear. I will leave it to Balmain’s chairman and CEO Alain Hivelin to introduce the line.
Pierre Balmain as a new and unique brand whose distinctive look and product respond to the needs and desires of today’s marketplace.” -Balmain chairman and CEO Alain Hivelin
Think of Pierre Balmain as a more relaxed and casual Balmain line with the same rock aesthetic. Sounds good to me. Take a look at the first few images of the Pierre Balmain Spring/Summer 2012 below and judge for yourselves.
Pierre Balmain will also not launch an ad campaign but instead advertise through short videos online. Stay tuned for that.
