LOVE Magazine Issue #7 | Kristen McMenamy by Tim Walker

LOVE Magazine Issue #7 is out in stores now and what caught my eye was this awe-inspiring editorial spread featuring Kristen McMenamy. Titled The Origin Of Monsters, Kristen McMenamy is shot by the extravagant Tim Walker with the fantastical use of larger than life insects as props. This peculiar theme is then further brought to life with deconstruction styling done by Katie Grand, making this one mysterious and eerie editorial. And if you are guessing who is on the cover or should I say covers –which I will not be featuring here as they did not excite me as much as this editorial– it is none other than Linda Evangelista who reportedly “cost LOVE Magazine a fortune”. Lara Stone fronts the i-D Magazine Fall 2011 edition, The Dreams and Aspirations Issue. Shot by David Bailey, Lara Stone appears in several fantasies wearing Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Jeremy Scott and Junya Watanabe among others for the i-D Magazine Fall 2011 editorial.

And that is exactly what editorials and ad campaigns sell, dreams and fantasies, however controversial they may seem. Certain lines have to be drawn of course but most of the time, we as consumers should learn to lighten up a little. They say fashion has no boundaries. What Lies Beneath Film by Mert & Marcus | Love Magazine #6

What Lies Beneath is the title of it photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot’s 28-page editorial in Love Magazine #6. Styled by Love Magazine Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand, What Lies Beneath starring Mariacarla Boscono, Saskia De Brauw, Kristen McMenamy, Anais Pouliot, Lara Stone, Guinevere Van Seenus, Paul Boche, Xiao Wen Ju, Jed Texas and Angus Whitehead, comes with an accompanying fashion film that also marks Mert and Marcus’ first ever fashion video.

Much has been said about the source of inspiration for What Lies Beneath that is stunningly dark and visually poignant. Plagiarism or inspiration? These two issues only matter to the parties involved and serious fashion folk. To the average consumer/viewer, what matters are visually stunning images, period. Mert and Marcus’ What Lies Beneath editorial and film for Love Magazine #6 showcased that and that’s all I have to say.

LOVE Magazine Issue 6 Covers | Elle, Chloe, Hailee, Lara, Nyasha, Mariacarla, Kristen, Daphne

LOVE Magazine Issue 6 is now out in stores and LOVE Magazine has finally released images of all 8 covers of its supernatural-themed Issue 6. The first three covers starring Elle Fanning, Chloë Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld have already been released and are now in stores. The remaining five special edition covers starring Lara Stone, Nyasha Matonhodze, Mariacarla Boscono, Kristen McMenamy and Daphne Groeneveld  will be out in stores on September 1st. All LOVE Magazine Issue 6 covers were shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The question now is which cover to get. I’m leaning towards Mariacarla Boscono or Elle Fanning. They are all stunning in their own right and it seems that fashion folk cannot stop seeing enough of in-demand photographers, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott’s stunning visuals.

With the stunning photo of Emma Watson by Mario Testino on the cover of Vogue US July 2011 on everyone’s lips, I would like to divert your attention to a beautiful and captivating film noir inspired editorial within the pages of that very issue. This editorial features Lara Stone in the leading role and Frida Gustavsson in fall’s latest collections accompanied by actor Alexander Skarsgard. Styled by Grace Coddington, a subtle melodramatic story of a femme fatale entitled Spellbound is told through the lens of Peter Lindbergh with significant usage of low-key lighting. Enjoy!

Glad that they included a black and white photo, it wouldn’t be film noir without it. And I think I might just know what I want to do for my next collection for school. Love the calm grandeur and Lara’s alluring gaze. Kudos to the team for going one up; a perfect complement to the cover.
