Hamish Bowles Auditions For The X-Factor

Vogue editor at large Hamish Bowles auditioned for The X-Factor under the guise of Leo Mecuré, a hairdresser from London who once gave Anna Wintour a blow-out. Wearing a Mugler suit, a Philip Treacy fedora and those Christian Louboutin for Marlon Gobel Fall 2011 shiny golden spiked shoes, Hamish Bowles sang Britney Spears’ Oops!…I Did It Again to the amusement of the judges – all of whom have no idea who he really was– and the audience.

Apparently it was Anna Wintour herself who signed up Hamish Bowles for the show. “You can sing,” she says before admitting she is completely tone deaf. Surprisingly Hamish Bowles had his fair share of singing when he was a little boy and has a couple of Fashion’s Night Out performances to his name but nothing was going to prepare him for Simon Cowell and co. Read about his recollection and the events leading up to that fateful day on vogue.com or read about it in the Vogue US October 2011 issue.

But what is all just for fun and entertainment? Or was it a unique product placement to advertise certain products? Anna Wintour is also known to support up-and-comers; was it the case this time round? To those who are not in the know Marlon Gobel is a relatively new menswear designer with just 4 collections under his belt but thanks to The X-Factor, the Christian Louboutin for Marlon Gobel Fall 2011 shoes have achieved overnight fame.
