After the kooky sports-inspired campaign for Spring/Summer 2012 and last season’s mediocre studio shots, the Chanel Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign was a breath of fresh air. Lensed by Karl Lagerfeld, Stella Tennant returns to the Chanel ranks with newcomers Ondria Hardin and Yumi Lambert playing second fiddle to the British model. Old muse versus new muses. All 3, unconventional in their own right. My favourite? Yumi Lambert.

Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw replaced Freja Beha Erichsen for the Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign that was styled by Carine Roitfeld for the second season running. Shot in black and white by Karl Lagerfeld himself, the Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign takes a nod from the collection’s white undersea inspiration with an unexpected sports reference.

25 year old musician Florence Welch appears yet on another cover, this time for Interview Magazine October 2011. Clearly taking the fashion world by storm; magazines aside she is the current muse for Frida Giannini’s Gucci and most recently performed for Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show. And it doesn’t stop there; Florence Welch also dons Valentino and Elie Saab couture for her band’s latest music video, Shake It Out, which you can view at the end of this post.
Shot by Craig McDean, the typography, the positioning of the masthead and Florence Welch make this cover quite different from the usual Interview Magazine cover aesthetic (they usually do close-ups). So is Florence Welch a budding fashion icon? Check out the Florence Welch for Interview Magazine October 2011 editorial below.

The Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection will consist of 45 limited edition pieces that will be available on August 31 at 235 of Macy’s stores as well as online, ranging from USD50 to USD170. That means good news for everyone looking to get a piece of the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection as Macy’s ship internationally. Those are my picks; view the rest of the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection in the slideshow below.
The Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection is rather Karl-inspired than Karl-designed if you ask me. Those tall white collars, black and white pieces as well as the gloves used and his image on t-shirts? It looks to me like Macy’s is tapping on Karl Lagerfeld’s popularity here.
High fashion meets high street collaborations have always been about the money. Consumers get ‘high fashion’ at a fraction of high fashion prices, and the collaborators rake in the money, a win-win situation. And of course you get high street quality you find at mass-market labels but when it is down to this level, that probably does not matter a lot. As for how much design thought do the designers actually put into these collaborations, we do not know. After designing up to 8 collections a year, one can only wonder but of course a certain quality has to be achieved. Still everybody is happy, no love lost there.
Check back at Macys.com come August 31 when the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection launches.

Anja Rubik fronts the Fendi Fall/Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign yet again for the third consecutive time. Anja Rubik dons a brunette wig playing what seems to be the wife of Baptiste Giabiconi flanked by three adorable kids, I presume to be their ‘children’. (Fendi has a kids collection –Fendi Kids) Brad Kroenig makes a cameo as the artist painting Anja Rubik and a family portrait. The Fendi Fall/Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign is of course shot by Karl Lagerfeld and features lots of fur and knits. I particularly like the eyewear that Anja Rubik wears. She is such a goddess.
The Fendi Fall/Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign is definitely a winner. The whole mood and creative direction were spot on and brought out the best from the stunning Fendi Fall/Winter 2011/2012 collection. Oddly though, the colour scheme is very similar to the Fendi Fall/Winter 2010/2011 ad campaign. That being said, the single release of 23 images from the ad campaign is one of the biggest yet.
