The W Magazine September 2012 issue features a Game Of Thrones inspired editorial, aptly titled Dame Of Thrones, rivaling that of LOVE Magazine’s Downton Abbey shoot. The magic duo of model Kristen McMenamy and photographer Tim Walker combine once again to produce a masterful piece of subtle extravagance.
The background scenery reminds me of the editorial starring Tilda Swinton by Tim Walker for W Magazine August 2011, which incidentally was also styled by Jacob K who nails this one. The styling here was just simply immaculate; I mean how do you find the most perfect pieces for an editorial like this?

Katie Grand’s editorial direction never seizes to amaze me and this time for LOVE Magazine Issue #8 Fall/Winter 2012/2013, she puts Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil) of Downton Abbey fame on the cover. Shot by Mert & Marcus, the whole cover editorial titled Dance With A Stranger is dedicated to the famed English costume drama Downton Abbey which will be into its third season very soon. If previously you have not heard of or watched it, these shots below might convince you otherwise; a truly sublime display of English portraits and surrealism.
Here is the full list of models cast for Dance With A Stranger by Mert & Marcus for Love Magazine Issue #8 Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Jessica Brown Findlay, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Rob James Collier, Sophie McShera, Amy Nuttall, Justus Eisfeld, Oliver Grenali, Konan Hanbury, Eddie Klint, Jason Morgan and Alex Shantz.

The Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2012/2013 ad campaign stars Chloë Sevigny, who previously featured for Miu Miu in the Spring/Summer 1996 ad campaign. This also marks the third straight ad campaign that Miu Miu has used celebrities instead of models; first with the controversial Hailee Steifeld campaign for Fall/Winter 2011/2012.
Photographed by Mert and Marcus, the ever edgy Chloë Sevigny wears similar eye makeup to the runway show where pantsuits that came in stripes, checks and prints were the main highlights. Styling was done by Katie Grand and featured loud pops of colour that make this a quirky and light-hearted campaign much like their previous one for Spring/Summer 2012.

LOVE Magazine Issue #7 is out in stores now and what caught my eye was this awe-inspiring editorial spread featuring Kristen McMenamy. Titled The Origin Of Monsters, Kristen McMenamy is shot by the extravagant Tim Walker with the fantastical use of larger than life insects as props. This peculiar theme is then further brought to life with deconstruction styling done by Katie Grand, making this one mysterious and eerie editorial. And if you are guessing who is on the cover or should I say covers –which I will not be featuring here as they did not excite me as much as this editorial– it is none other than Linda Evangelista who reportedly “cost LOVE Magazine a fortune”. The only other cover features Lara Stone and Kate Moss together. Check out both covers on the LOVE Magazine Facebook page.

What Lies Beneath is the title of it photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot’s 28-page editorial in Love Magazine #6. Styled by Love Magazine Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand, What Lies Beneath starring Mariacarla Boscono, Saskia De Brauw, Kristen McMenamy, Anais Pouliot, Lara Stone, Guinevere Van Seenus, Paul Boche, Xiao Wen Ju, Jed Texas and Angus Whitehead, comes with an accompanying fashion film that also marks Mert and Marcus’ first ever fashion video.
Much has been said about the source of inspiration for What Lies Beneath that is stunningly dark and visually poignant. Plagiarism or inspiration? These two issues only matter to the parties involved and serious fashion folk. To the average consumer/viewer, what matters are visually stunning images, period. Mert and Marcus’ What Lies Beneath editorial and film for Love Magazine #6 showcased that and that’s all I have to say.
