Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart both cover the Interview Magazine June/July 2012 edition in the wake of the release of their movie, Snow White and The Huntsman. Shot by Mikael Jansson and styled by Karl Templer, Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart wear the likes of Balenciaga, Dior, Dries Van Noten, Tom Ford, Maison Martin Margiela, Lanvin and Valentino among others in an editorial themed much similar to the mood of their movie. Kristen Stewart manages to look drab in a fashion editorial yet again while the ever captivating Charlize Theron takes centre stage.

The Valentino Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign is feminine, romantic, dreamy, ethereal, everything you would expect from a classic Valentino collection. Shot by Deborah Turbeville, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli’s exquisite and graceful creations came to life in a setting that mirrored the garden of Eden. Models Bette Franke, Fei Fei Sun, Zuzanna Bijoch and Maud Welzen did not disappoint as they played divine beings roaming around in frocks fitting of a royal.

Karlie Kloss has come of age in the Vogue Italia December 2011 issue. Clad in Valentino, she strikes up a fearsome pose reminiscent of Gisele Bundchen on the cover. The talking point however is the editorial spread inside, aptly titled Body.
Shot by Steven Meisel, Karlie Kloss captivates in the buff in what seems to be her first time intentionally baring her breasts. “Too young” (she’s 19; 15 when she burst on the scene), “she’s anorexic” and “overly photoshopped” were the main arguments. I see her as having a well-toned body, albeit aided by photoshop (which models aren’t) and a versatile model who has finally matured. It must also be noted that she is a Victoria’s Secret model; enough said. So I say enough of the criticism and see what Karlie Kloss has become –a fine model looking to make her mark as one of the elites. I can only imagine what 2012 has installed for her. The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum will be launching very soon on December 5, 2011. The virtual museum is a downloadable desktop application connected to an online database that uses real time 3D technology and will showcase over 50 years worth of Valentino’s illustrious career including over 3000 images of dresses, illustrations, ad campaigns, editorials, red carpet images and 95 fashion show videos. A digital fashion experience like no other; the above contents would actually require over 100 000 square feet of space if it were displayed physically.
Valentino had previously done physical retrospective exhibitions of his archives but what he aims to do with The Valentino Garavani Museum is unprecedented; reaching out to a wider audience without them having to pay a single cent at all. A designer putting in such tremendous amount of effort and money (save for sponsorships) into such a project for the benefit of consumers certainly deserves applauding.
“I see it as part of my legacy. I am happy that thousands of students, young designers and fashion people will be able to see and study my work in every aspect of it, and in a manner easy and accessible for the younger generations. But it is also important to remember things of the past, to review the fashion that has shaped our lives. I would call it ‘Future Memory’.” –Valentino Garavani
25 year old musician Florence Welch appears yet on another cover, this time for Interview Magazine October 2011. Clearly taking the fashion world by storm; magazines aside she is the current muse for Frida Giannini’s Gucci and most recently performed for Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show. And it doesn’t stop there; Florence Welch also dons Valentino and Elie Saab couture for her band’s latest music video, Shake It Out, which you can view at the end of this post.
Shot by Craig McDean, the typography, the positioning of the masthead and Florence Welch make this cover quite different from the usual Interview Magazine cover aesthetic (they usually do close-ups). So is Florence Welch a budding fashion icon? Check out the Florence Welch for Interview Magazine October 2011 editorial below.
